Convert MKV to GIF

MKV is a flexible container popular for films and screen recordings, but many phones, editors and social sites refuse it. A GIF plays on its own, loops, and drops into chats, docs and issue trackers that will not embed video.

How it works

  1. 1Upload the MKV video.
  2. 2Open video to GIF and set the start, the length (up to 60 seconds), the width and the frame rate.
  3. 3Download the GIF.

What you get

The part you want

Start anywhere in the clip and keep 1 to 60 seconds — no need to trim the video first.

Size under control

GIFs get big fast. Width (up to 1920 px) and frame rate (1–30 fps) are the two settings that decide the file size.

Same result in your code

What you run here is one multipart request over the API, with a webhook when the job is done.

Pay for processing time

One tariff for every operation, capped per file. A failed job is refunded automatically.

Same thing over the API

One header, one multipart request with the file, then poll the job or take a webhook. The same operation you just tried in the browser.

Questions

Why is my GIF so large?

GIF is an old format with no modern compression. A narrower width, a lower frame rate (10–15 fps is plenty for most clips) and a shorter clip shrink it the most.

Does the GIF keep the sound?

No — GIF has no audio track. If you need sound, keep the clip as MP4 instead.

Do I need an account?

Small files can be converted without signing up. An account adds a daily free allowance and an API key.

Can I automate it?

Yes. Send the file to the API with service “clipconvert” and operation “gif” with start, duration, fps and width, then poll the job or take a webhook.
